Seesaw is a digital portfolio that was recommended by other Mindlabers when I posed a question about parent engagement for Research 1. After some research Seesaw could be an avenue we explore as a group to try and gain parent engagement. Seesaw shows what students are doing at school with there teacher, other students and whanau. There are various tools, students can use to showcase their learning while implementing all those 21st Century skills. They can add videos, drawing, voice recordings, notes and much more to their learning journal from any device (it will hopefully take away the barrier of the current problem we have with our technology around Chrome Books). Teachers are able to gain insight to how individual students are progressing and ways they can better support them based on submitted work to seesaw. This could help us increase parent involvement as it is simple for parents to use and will hopefully form a bridge between parents and school without the added pressure to come into school often. Seesaw will be something we look into for Practice Assignment 1.

Step 1: Defining my Audience The audience that I am addressing are the students and their whanau, with consideration towards fellow colleagues, Senior Management and the Board of Trustees. My primary focus for my inquiry is enhancing parent engagement in order to improve student learning. When I first started my inquiry I had the idea of improving student achievement through the use of the new Digital Technologies Curriculum. When we received the parent engagement surveys back there were some parents that mentioned negative comments about their child’s teacher, clearly identifying who they were in the survey and something they did not like about them. We did not expect this to happen and it forced us to think critically about what we needed to do. Why did it happen this way? How does this relate to your past experiences? We used the Ehrich et al.
