Assignment 1

We stayed at school til about 8pm on Thursday and Friday night completing our assignment and then on Saturday all we had to do was the voice over. We spent quite a lot of time on Saturday trying to find the APA reference for some of the readings we used from the portal, to find that the references were actually done in the portal if we had scrolled down. Tonight we were all (Sarah Mangaoa and Alicia Jones) able to post it online, thanks to Jess who came in from Mindlab to help solve any IT issues we were having. It's such a relief to have the first assignment done and dusted.

It was quite a difficult task to get my head around because it was quite a free range assignment. I studied at Waikato University about 10 years ago and assignments were very clear and structured where with Mindlab you can express yourself using any form and there is no clear boundaries (do a 2000 word essay about....).

I feel for the remainder of this Post Graduate paper I will need to reprogramme my brain to not think I need to agree with a theorist, rather than find a pathway that is suited for me and/or my students.

Step 1: Defining my Audience The audience that I am addressing are the students and their whanau, with consideration towards fellow colleagues, Senior Management and the Board of Trustees. My primary focus for my inquiry is enhancing parent engagement in order to improve student learning. When I first started my inquiry I had the idea of improving student achievement through the use of the new Digital Technologies Curriculum. When we received the parent engagement surveys back there were some parents that mentioned negative comments about their child’s teacher, clearly identifying who they were in the survey and something they did not like about them.
